This page contains information, changes, or modifications to rallies, or other activities which are disseminated since the last issue of The Caravanner.

7-8-10 Photos of the annual rally in Montreal are now posted

3/8/10 - The financial report is now being posted monthly for those interested in our financial condition.

1/23/10  - Photographs of the 2009 Annual Rally, the June Ocala, FL Rally and the New York Fall 2009 Rally are now posted. My thanks to the Mary Smith for the photos.

7/5/09 - The password for the web page roster will change in a few days. It is published in the masthead of the hard copy of the Caravanner.

7/5/09 - Your Caravanner editor and the Webmaster are working to improve the Caravanner. While the mailed issue cannot have links,  high definition color photos, and other features, when placed on the web page, these features become available. This issue, just released, has some of those features. The email addresses are linked to write emails to the person, and click on a photo to see the enlarged copy. Not all photos have these larger photos - we're just starting and experimenting. It will load a little slower because of the advanced features, but we think it is worth it. Let us know how you like it. Webmaster and Editor.

6/23/2009 - At the suggestion and with the help of Robert Traister the web site now has a Google calendar. Bob has started it by entering all of the rallies he is aware of. Click on the "Agenda" tab and then "Look for More" several times and you can get all of the rallies that appear on the calendar to appear in one list. Send new information to me (Kirk) for entry on it.

6/15/2009 - The new officers email addresses have been corrected on the officers/directors page. More information will be added soon. The May 2009 secretary's report has also been posted. Photos of the annual rally will be posted in the next week.

6/4/2009 - Al & Ann Brieger's Swansong

3/29/09 - The April 2009 issue of the Caravanner is now online.

12/24/08 - Merry Christmas. Debbie Conover has publish her first edition of the Caravanner which, I'm sure will be arriving in your mail box soon. I can see she is stepping into Scott's shoes with the same high quality publication.

11/17/2008 When the dust settled from the fun of our Eastern Zone Fall last September, there was $260 left from the registration fees that were paid.  RVFers at the Rally agreed that rather than receive a small refund, the funds should be donated to the RVF 's Highway Safety Program.
Accordingly,  a check in the amount of $260 was forwarded to the RVF Treasuer to be placed in the Fellowship's Highway Safety Fund.
Thanks for your help and Happy Thanksgiving!
    Dick and Cay Roberts

10/21/2008 The Annual Report to RI can now be found in the Minutes and Reports section of this site.

2/22/08 Dear All - today the Hospice nurse came and talked with us as to what  to expect the next few days. After she left, I sat beside Don [Anker] and told him how very much I have always loved him. Then I told him that  George was waiting to give him a hug and that The Long Gray Line was  waiting to greet him. Don passed away about 5 minutes later.
Every one has been so very kind and helpful - even the caregivers cried.  His memorial service will be this Wednesday and he will be buried in  Arlington later in the Spring [he will be cremated and when the time comes, so will I].  Take care - Bobbi

2/11/08 The following sad news was received from Bobbi Anker:
It really breaks my heart to write this message.
Don is home now with hospice care - would one of you send this to the Eastern Zone Rotary RVFrs. He has an inoperable brain tumor that did not respond to radiation or chemotherapy - fortunately he is not in pain. I have round-the-clock care for him; at first I though I only needed help in the day time, but I quickly found that I was way too crabby without a good night's sleep.
We had purchased a Winnebago new in the spring - traded in the big RV as we had bought a park model in March.
General RV here in Michigan bought the little Winnebago back from me this month and I shall be selling the park model as soon as I can....I know I will not be going to Texas w/o Don.
Do take care - safe travels to all - Bobbi.

1/29/08 A digital camera was found at the last RI National Convention with photos on it that indicate it came from one of our RVF members. If you lost a camera,  Jatare Barrett RI Hqtrs, phone (847) 866-3071 has it and you can retrieve it by calling him.

1/13/08 Dick and Cay Roberts wrote: Many of you remember Tom Falconer, our excellent RVF treasurer in the '90s.  We received a note from Tom's daughter noting that he had passed away this January 3.  Tom was an avid golfer, a meticulous financial guy, and a loyal and valuable member of the RVF for many years.  You may remember the "Treasurer's Tie" that he wore when we were conducting raffles to raise funds for the Highway Safety Program. Many of you, like we are, may have been personal friends of Tom's.  If you were, you may want to make a personal contribution in his memory to the Stuart Sunrise Rotary Club's charitable foundation.  The address for contributions made in his name is:
Stuart Sunrise Rotary Club Charitable Foundation, c/o John Fedorek, CPA, 1000 SE Monterey Commons Blvd., Suite 101, Stuart, FL 34996, PH: 772-287-4480

1/12/08 The Calderwoods have arranged for RI to provide bus transportation between the Pacific Rally Los Angeles Rally site and the RI Convention.

1/9/08 The January 2008 issue of the Caravanner is now online. There is a special letter from our president at the end.

1/9/08 - The Annual Rally will NOT be held in Los Angeles with the RI Convention. However, Laura and Ken Calderwood will be hosting The Pacific Zone Rally in conjunction with the RI Convention. See the Future Rallies section for further information.

1/8/08 - The Annual Rally will be held at the Sundermeier RV Resort from July 7 to 11, 2008 Click >>HERE<< to see more on the RV Park.

12/8/07 - Photos of the RVF astern Zone Fall Rally, Grand Marais County Campground, Grand Marais, Minnesota are posted in the Past Rallies Albums.

11/5/07 - The pending rally in Bakersfield has been modified. See Future Rallies.

11/2/07 - Wagonmasters. Please read the instructions printed in the last issue of the Roster distributed last month. (They are also at the top of the Pending Rallies page of this web site). If you only provide information to the Caravanner, it may not appear on the web site and those on the road who depend on the web site for current information may not learn of your rally until to late.

11/2/07 - The January 29- February 2, 2008 - Eastern Zone Snowbird Rally, Tallahassee, FL  is filling rapidly. The wagonmaster has indicated that those who wait until the last moment to make a reservation may find no space remaining.

10/27/07 - You will be happy to know that Dick Nevins, Wagonmaster for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Rally, together with the Rotarians who attended, ended the rally with a surplus of $860.00 which they generously contributed to the Highway Safety Fund. THANKS TO ALL!!
This brings the fund balance to $6,438.38. Want to see what you missed if you weren't there? CLICK HERE (This is a slide show and you use your arrow keys to move from one side to another)

10/22/07 - The report and photographs on the Balloon Fiesta is now posted in the Past Rallies Section

10/2/07 - The recent issue of the Caravanner emphasized the hope that members would be sharing their cell phone numbers with the Membership Chair, Jerry Haley. He is the one who maintains the roster that we publish on this web page. When the editor indicated the number would be published, be aware of the fact that it is published in a password protected directory so it isn't a "public" posting. The availability of the cell numbers will help members contact each other when on the road, or even when at a rally when they can call from motorhome to motorhome.

9/24/07 -     On August 13 Don Anker came home from a trip to the bank and was chuckling - and remarked "the teller probably thought I was drunk because I slurred my words."
Bobbie, his wife, called his doctor and immediately took him to the ER. The CT scan [cannot do MRI because he has a pacemaker] showed a disturbance in his brain. He was treated for a stroke and after a week was sent home.
On Labor Day his speech got worse so we went back to the ER. Hospitalized again for treatments and on Friday he had a seizure - at that point all hell broke loose! They did a contrast dye CT scan and found a tumor. He underwent a biopsy and after a few days was sent home to wait for the results. We did have a second opinion and this neurologist suggested either the Cleveland Clinic or University of Michigan. We chose the Cleveland Clinic. We went down there last week. The slides that had been read at Bay Medical [home hospital] were so inconclusive that they were sent to U of M. These slides were inconclusive also and were sent back to Bay Med; they have yet to be forwarded to Cleveland. Cleveland has been in constant contact with us and we will be going back there sometime this coming week.
Just keep Don in your thoughts and prayers and, hopefully, we will have some good news to pass along in the not too distant future.

9/10/07 - John Greenwood - On August 22nd our Rotary RV Fellowship lost a devoted member, John Greenwood, from Winters. Calif.

Polly and I met John and Bobbie at the November 1990 Pacific Zone rally held at the Pismo Coast Village RV campground in Pismo Beach, California.  During the rally we saw this tall fellow next to a petite white haired lady. They were standing alone, so we  went over and said “Howdy”. This was the beginning of a 17-year friendship.

John was the Wagonmaster of many rallies held in the Pacific Zone along with his “Real Wagonmaster” wife Bobbie of 67 years. He also served as Chairman of the Pacific Zone.

John was a charter member, past President, and multiple Paul Harris Fellow of the Winters Rotary Club. He will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, remarkable humor and his dedication to family, friends, community and Rotary. (Prepared by Gordon Lipp)

7/21/07 - The Password has changed to access the roster (Members Only). It is published in the front page header of the new Caravanner which you should receive shortly. The new Caravanner is also published on this web site (without the password in the header).

7/19/07 - The photos of our National Rally are slowly appearing, piece by piece, on the Past Rally Albums page. There will be more as time permits. Note to use the arrows on the top to scroll through the thumbnail photos. Click on the one you want to enlarge.

3/7/07 Leah Clark, ljclark@sbcglobal.net, has volunteered to put the photo albums of rallies between 1993 and 2002 that Laura Calderwood has been keeping on a CD. Interested people should contact her directly. The cost of the disk is $5.

01/25/07 In an attempt to improve the communications to our members, a form has been developed for wagon masters to use as a guide in submitting information to Bob Scott, editor of the Caravanner, and to the web master for posting on this web site. A traffic review of visitors to this site indicates that it is used mostly for information on rallies. Unfortunately, several rallies have not been listed because the wagon masters didn't provide any information to the web master. The form is linked at the top of the Future Rallies page and temporarily can be accessed HERE.

12/11/06 - The current bylaws of the fellowship passed this year are in the Minutes and Reports section.

04/13/03 - CLICK HERE for some useful information on Identity Theft - how to prevent and what to do if it occurs.

11/14/2002 BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. Click >HERE< and enjoy the symbol of our heritage.

If you have news that you think the members would enjoy, send it to the webmaster as an E-mail attachment.

We need photographs of past rallies to show our prospective members how much fun and fellowship takes place at our rallies.

Guidelines for WagonMasters, adopted at the 2002 national meeting, are published and accessed from the link on the Future Rallies page. The Webmaster notes that no mention was made of utilization of the web for distributing information on upcoming rallies.  Wagonmasters should send the webmaster information for publication as soon as it becomes available. We can even publish an advance notice of a rally with details to be filled in when available.
