Annual Rally 2009
WOW !! What a great Annual Rally we had at the
Buckhorn Lake RV Resort in Kerrville, Texas!
The non -Texans in attendance all indicated that
we had not exaggerated about the Texas Hospitality or the RV Resort and
that in this case, a bit of Texas bragging proved to be the real thing. The
Rolling Rotarians made everyone feel at home; and, together with the wonderful
folks in charge of the Resort, we were able to enjoy the great fellowship,
amenities, and, points of interest in the area that are the mainstays of our
Rallies.
Two highlights of the Rally were the Silent
Auctions & the presentation of the Highway Safety Award to the Kerrville
Police Department. At the Break-Away Breakfast we had with us Chief of Police
Young & Captain Wendling with whom we had worked, in providing them with two
defibrillators that will enhance their ability to better respond to the
needs of their department.
The Silent Auctions (4 of them) so outstandingly
handled by Mike & Mary Pinson and Dennis & Cathy
Phaltzgraff, added $2000 to our Highway Safety Fund. A great big THANK YOU to
everyone for bringing items for bid and for buying items. Also, a special
thank you to the Kentucky Rotarians for "rounding out" the final figure to
$2000 with a $268.50 contribution.
The biggest event at the rally, however, was the
change of leadership and the election of our new Board for 2009 - 2011.
( Please see who they are as listed in another section of this edition of the
Caravanner). I am so pleased to pass the presidency on to such an outstanding
and capable leader as Reba Lovrien. She, along with the other Board members,
will make sure that our RVF is in "good hands". She will make us proud!
Incidentally, 11 of the 13 current Board members and all 5 of
the newly-elected members to the Board were present. It certainly shows their
dedication to the RVF.
Many of you at the rally commented on the fact
that my grin got bigger & bigger as the Rally drew to a close and July 1,
loomed on the horizon. It's true that I am elated to "turn it over" to Reba;
but, I must tell you that it has been a tremendous honor, joy and
privilege for Ann & me to have had the opportunity to serve "ya"ll" these last
two years. We have met and mingled with many wonderful Rotarians at the
Rallies in various areas of the country and have many wonderful memories of
our times together.
Now, in conclusion: please always remember, "Let
the Good Times Roll & May The Wind Always Be At Your Back" as you continue
pursuing our two favorite pastimes - RV'ing & Rallying!!
God Bless & "Auf Wiedersehen" !
Ann & Al
